Fainting Europeans
12/06/2023

Today, during the session of the Mazhilis, two deputies immediately raised the issue of drinking water. According to the deputies, it is time to sound the alarm.
In particular, Deputy Sergey Ponomarev stated the lack of conscientious attitude towards water among Kazakhs. To emphasize his point, he demonstrated this with a specific example.
In the next 15 years, according to UN forecasts, Kazakhstan will experience severe water shortages.
In Europe, the Rhine River is consumed five times, where high-tech purification facilities are in operation. In contrast, our rivers flow into nowhere, with only 3 percent of water being reused.
In the industrial sector, only 30 percent of enterprises use water recycling technology. This trend is observed everywhere, as people simply do not realize that water is not infinite.
The government is inactive. There are no effective economic mechanisms that would encourage businesses to actively implement progressive water-saving technologies. It seems that the government, when it comes to water issues, is in a state of dormancy.
Summer floodwaters in the steppe are wasted as we have destroyed all reservoirs. Remember, in the past, numerous ponds and lakes were used for irrigation.
Meanwhile, a severe water deficit has long been observed in the Kyzylorda, Zhambyl, and Atyrau regions. Only in Mangystau, there is a daily shortage of 50 thousand cubic meters.
Moreover, Kazakhstan depends on water from neighboring states by more than 90 percent. If our neighbors stop supplying river water, the price of drinking water could instantly skyrocket to 2,000 tenge per liter. We can ask our neighbors for water as much as we want, but quotas will only decrease.
Europeans are in shock; they faint or have heart attacks when they see that we wash our cars with drinking water! Everyone is amazed, except us!
